Breaking Text
Jan 26th – 28th, 2017
Spoken Word, Literary Readings, Workshops, Performances all responding to current social and political issues showcasing both bizarre and entertaining spectacles and all taking place in Northern Ontario.
Our works are informed through social commentary always featuring locally relevant topics creating conversations about the dichotomy found within identity. Zakide has an Indigenous focus yet we include non-Indigenous artists in our actions as a way of conducting cross-cultural collaborations and engaging beyond one community. Artists explore identity and space in a variety of ways including spoken word, poetry, literary readings, media arts text installation performance and more. Presentations relate to many things including geographic relevance, current local and national politics, social constraints, racialized issues, environmental concerns and, of course, all things relating to life. Our goal is to challenge our audience and create events that celebrate thought.
